I Want to Be Me Lyrics

There are times when it seems that we are fulfilling someone else's image of what we should be rather than being true to ourselves and our own passions. We are told that whatever dreams and ambitions that we have need to take a backseat so that we can fit into the neat little package that society deems is appropriate. It takes a great amount of courage and desire to free yourself from that kind of debilitating influence. But it starts with that little spark inside of yourself that says, I just want to be the me that I know I am, rather than the me that you think you can enforce on me. In my case it's that voice telling you, "This can't be all there is to life. Can't somebody tell me that it's ok to think outside of those societal norms?"

I Want To Be Me

A tired mold

Both young and old

Conform to the mass of society

Wandering alone

In a sea of clones

Feeling left and lost in the crowd

Someone

Say something, something so bold

That I can just be

Say something, say something

Say something, say something now

I just want to be me

Forced in the cold to

Be what I’m told

Hide all the things that make me myself

I want to be seen as

More than a faceless being

Told I need to be like everyone else

But I’m ok

Finding my own way

Don’t try to hold me down

I will

Say something, something so bold

That I can just be I will

Say something, say something

Say something, say something now

I just want to be me

Say something, say something

Say something, say something now

I just want to be me
